Our Support & Welcome to AEWA
The 'AEWA' stands for The Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasion Migratory waterbirds. It entered into force on 1st November, 1999.It is an environmental, multilateral agreement, which covers 255 species of birds ecologically dependent on wetlands for at least part of their annual cycle.Over 188 countries have signed the agreement.This includes EU countries, parts of Asia, Africa,Canada and the Middle East.
The Agreement encourages co-operation between those involved and provides a framework to enable coordinated action. Involved parties address issues such as habitat conservation and undertake a range of conservation strategies and monitoring developments. Despite being a recent initiative, its implementation is well underway and is supported by much of the European community.
